The inspiration for my paintings is drawn from my love of gardening. Like many others before me, I have found a sense of fulfilment and of 'place' working with plants in closer connection with the natural world. After initially training and working as a solicitor in the City of London, I took up gardening while studying art. My passion for flowers soon translated itself into my paintings and the image of a rose was the theme of my MA Exhibition at the University of Westminster, from which I graduated with a Distinction in Design and Media Arts. My paintings aim to capture the mysterious beauty of garden flowers and their harmonious geometry. By setting an individual flower against my trademark patterned backgrounds, I aim to explore contrasts between the work of nature, the manmade and the artifice of these often, hybrid blooms. Ultimately, my paintings celebrate the infinite variation of form, colour and texture found in flowers, from the delicate, soft shades of a charming old rose to the vibrant colours of a dahlia and provide me with an unlimited source of inspiration and fulfilment.
